These are both caused by the change you made to play the "next" video before picking a new random video to play.
#PLAY MULTIPLE VLC AT ONCE MOVIE#
Sometimes it ends up just playing each movie from the beginning. This all happens in fullscreen however, unlike in point 1. I can't tell if it's a different part of the current movie, of the next movie, or a different file entirely. (Possibly the glitch above then causes the following as the behavouir looks the same) Between each movie VLC plays a 1 second clip, sometimes it does it twice. I can address a few of the points that were raised. But if they're easy fixes, please let me know. I'm totally happy to work around these, as I've been after a script like this for years, and I'm thrilled that someone helped me get this far.

If VLC encounters an error that generates a dialogue box (I often got 'file not indexed properly, would you like to fix it?') it will just pause the whole process until you click a button to dismiss the dialogue box. Sometimes it seems to lose the duration value, and end up playing each movie in its entirety.ĥ. Sometimes it ends up just playing each movie from the beginning.Ĥ. This all happens in fullscreen however, unlike in point 1.ģ.

Maybe the script needs to wait until the playlist is complete, I'm not sure?Ģ. I have about 300 subfolders with around 1000 movie files to collate, and it takes my machine around 15s to complete the playlist. While the script is first populating the playlist, VLC attempts to play files but only does for around a second each time, and not in fullscreen. I'll list them just in case they're obvious to anyone:ġ. It's still got a few quirks which seem to happen inconsistantly, so it's hard for me to replicate them to figure out why they're happening. here's the final python script that we ended up with.

where a guy pretty much figured out something similar using a Python script - but I've no idea how to impliment such a thing? I'm on a MacBook, can it be done from Terminal and if so, how? Also, there's often txt/nfo/jpg/png/mp3/flac files in such folders, which should be ignored, or at least not throw an error/stop the process if encountered. Ideally, as most of my video files are in subfolders in my main movie directory, it would ignore directory structure to pick the files.

I'd like to be able to point VLC at a folder, and for it to randomly play at full screen a random movie file (could be avi, mpg, vob, etc.), from a random point, for a random length of time (with a cap of, say, max 1 min and min of 5 secs) before it picks another random file to play. Some people have reported that the feature works in VLC 2.2.* but from VLC 3 onwards.Īdditionally, the third and more videos can be added by manually adding additional path information to the Edit Options field.I've been wanting to do this for a number of years, for projecting at parties, but am just not technical enough to have sorted it myself. Otherwise, you should go to Video > Video Track and choose Track 2. Now, if you have the right version of VLC Media Player, it will work.

But if everything is done correctly, we will have two videos playing in sync in VLC Media Player. Doing it might be a bit tricky and the results achieved might differ in different versions of VLC Media Player. We can add a third or even a fourth video. So, an extra media file (video or audio) will load and play at the same time. Before, the same result was achieved by opening two instances of VLC and aligning them to share the screen and play them. With the modern version of the VLC, it can natively open and synchronously play two media files. Or, we might need a mashup where we use the audio from one video and the visuals from the other one. We might have to open two videos simultaneously to compare them. There might arise a need when we have to open two videos side by side using VLC Media Player.
